Richmond folk duo Sleepy Brother are playing a release show for their new album, "Let in the Light", 7/18 at Sound of Music Recording Studios

Sleepy Brother, a folksy acoustic duo from Richmond, VA released a single called "Glimpse" last month featuring lulling plucks on guitar and smooth vocals explaining an upbringing inspired narrative. This month they are preparing for the full unveiling of their upcoming album "Let in the Light". They will be celebrating this achievment with a performance at Sound of Music Recording Studios on 7/18 accompanied by fellow Richmond based band Ocean Versus Daughter and NC's Bear Stevens. Heather Wiederholt's voice enters the sacharine, her lyrics encouraging nostalgia and optimism, while Nathan Burns brings the grounding keys, guitar, and percussion.

Tearjerker- Perfect

Perfect by Tearjerker is a shoegaze-ish summer anthem. The beauty and melancholy of the track is evident in every aspect of the song. The circular synth line, floating up and down as the song moves along, combined with the myriad of slow, softly droning instruments all providing a bed that makes time feel like it isn’t moving at all. The spacy, distant vocals put the listener right into the middle of the whole thing, a walk down the beach into the sunset. With so many different little things happening, the song demands repeated listens, feeling just a little bit different with each playthrough. Raising the tension and volume just a hair for the ending, and coming to a relatively abrupt ending, is a fresh feeling on an ambient track. It builds and builds and builds through the whole song, a conversation of something deep and personal that builds until the truth is revealed, and ends on a high note. Every little bit of Perfect is necessary, and feels just that. Perfect. Look for Tearjerker to drop their new album, Stay Wild, July 17th. I certainly can’t wait to get my hands on it. - Cody Wright

Painted Palms Release New Single – Tracers

The popular San Francisco based electro pop artists, Painted Palms have released a new single entitled, Tracers after returning from a bit of a hiatus. We’re excited to hear some new music from them and are equally excited to hear that they’re set to release their full length album, Horizons on September 4th on Polyvinyl.

Check out this fresh new track that is more upbeat than their earlier work which was darker, more washed out and somber. We like what they were doing then and we dig what they’re doing now. Check out this track and we’ll keep you posted on when they line up local live performances.
